Veterans Day: Celebrate the hours with handful of goodies

The most awaited Veterans Day is moving closer.

11th November is such a day when we all want to salute our heroes.

This day many national restaurant chains, including local restaurants, show their honor by offering free meals or some special discounts to veterans and active-duty military members. Other merchants also offer discounts to salute our heroes.

Here are some details on special offers/deals available for the veterans.

How you can take advantage of the deals, discounts, and offers

1 Verify before heading out

Give a call to the restaurant to confirm whether or not it’s participating in the event. Also, don’t forget to verify the place and the time.

All bars and restaurants have their policies. So, it is better to check and verify the deals before heading out for the meals and discounts.

2 Be ready to produce a document

You may be asked to provide documents of your service.

Such documents include:

  • Military ID Card (active/reserve/retired)
  • Current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES)
  • VA ID Card
  • Drivers License with Veterans Designation
  • Veterans Organization Card (e.g. American Legion and VFW)
  • Photograph in uniform (You can wear your uniform if it’s permitted in your service)
  • DD214
  • Discharge paperwork

You can also produce any other valid form of identification.

However, some restaurants follow the honor system, and you won’t have to produce any document.

A piece of information: All veterans need to apply online for a new VA ID Card.
