Winter is an amazing time for both parents and kids. This is the perfect time of the year when we can relax and spend quality time with our entire family. We can do a lot of mind-blowing activities that is possible only in the winter season.
But some of us hesitate to enjoy this holiday season because they don’t want to spend too much dollars for fun. Let me inform you, there are still other ways to enjoy winter without putting stress on your wallet.
Let’s discuss about the options:
1 Build a castle out of blankets
Start building your castle out of blankets and pillows, and ask your kids to join you. It’ll be a fun activity for both of you whenever you’ll start watching movies, reading books, or taking a nap inside the castle on these cold days.
Trust me! Your kids will remember the excitement just like you did.
2 Have fun with snow
Winter is the only season when you can have lots and lots of snow to play with. Powdery soft, white snow can be the most essential part of your winter fun and best of all, they’re free!
We can fight with snowballs, or join with other groupies for sledding or snowboarding. Snowy woods can also be a perfect place to spot wildlife and different seasonal orchids.
3 Host a snowman competition
Again, it’s an another part of having fun with snow. Go to the next level of snowman building and host a competition. Ask your kids to search and find different accessories that they can use to give the snowman the best and different look. You can also announce small prizes for kids who participate in the competition.
4 Join with your kids in ice skating or other winter games
Kids love ice skating a lot! It’s an amazing winter fun activity that is appreciated by even young generation and parents. Most of the ice skating rinks are built indoors. But during the winter, you can also find outdoor rinks in your locality. So, go on and give it a try!
5 Visit a local museum
Winter is the best time to tour your local museums. During this time, there are relatively fewer crowds and tourists gather to view the exhibits. Many museums offer “free entry days” or “free entry” coupons during winter.
So, spending a day viewing the amazing exhibits absolutely free is quite interesting and cheap.
6 Compete in a sledding race
Load up the vehicle with sleds, inner tubes, and your close pals. Hit the best sledding hill in your area and compete in the race. Ask your friends to take snaps or record the entire race. At the end of the day, view, discuss, and share your favorite snaps through social media over a smoky mug of hot chocolate.
7 Prepare snow ice cream
This is something that you can try to fulfill the creativity of your inner chef. Collect a clean dump of freshly fallen snow and use it to prepare your homemade ice cream. This is a unique idea to enjoy winter with your kids. If your kids love ice cream and want to make it at home, it would be a great opportunity for you to teach how to do it easily.
8 Teach your kids to paint in the snow
Fill up few bottles with watercolor or food coloring; then, ask your kids to take the bottles outside and start “painting” on the snowy surface.
Don’t forget to take snaps or record these amazing drawings; your kids will cherish these moments later when you see them together.
If you’re a couch potato, like me, who didn’t know how to have fun in the winter, I strongly recommend these above-given ideas to enjoy the cold season with your kids. It’s much more exciting than sitting around the fireplace and watching the same old TV shows all day long.
