However, saving money does not necessarily mean that you will have to compromise on your enjoyment. All you need is to know certain things which will help you save dollars, especially if you’re new into camping. Check out these 8 tips to save money on camping trips.


  1. Sign up for a card membership – If you love camping, then it is better you sign up for a membership with a campground chain; it will make you eligible for certain discounts. Some of the organizations offer about 10% discount every time you camp. When you become a member, you will also earn points, which you can redeem for rewards or additional savings.
  2. Avoid going on weekends – If it is possible for you, avoid camping during the weekends. There are some parks which offer discount to set your RV or tent during the weekdays. Therefore, check out whether or not the camping ground offer discounts on weekdays when you choose a camping destination. Similarly, you may have to pay more if you plan your camp during special holidays such as, Labor Day or Memorial Day.
  3. Check out paying day-to-day option – You never know when the weather changes and you might have to return home. So, while planning your next camping destination, check out whether or not they allow paying for day-to-day instead of paying for the entire week. Going for day-to-day option will help you save money if the weather becomes unfavorable for camping.
  4. Purchase used items – You can always save money by purchasing used items, especially if you and your family are new to camping. There are several websites where you can search in order to buy used gears which are in good condition. You can also buy some items and borrow others from your family and friends. They can also borrow your items when they go for camping. This way, you save a lot of hard-earned dollars.
  5. Use solar lamps – One of the best cheap and eco-friendly ways is to carry solar lamps with you. You can charge it during the day and use it at nighttime. By doing so, you will also save energy. 
  6. Carry two ice chests with you – Instead of carrying one ice chest, consider carrying two ice chests – one for food and the other for drink. It is quite obvious that you will have to open the ice chest containing drink more often thus causing the ice to melt much faster. So, the ice will last longer if you carry a separate one for food and keep it in a shade.
  7. Do not opt for overpriced food items – Usually the restaurants in the campgrounds are expensive. Therefore, you can carry some frozen meals in a cooler, which will help you have considerable amount. You can also carry fruits and vegetables along with other snacks and can avoid purchasing meal from the campground. So, plan your meals beforehand, so that you know exactly what to carry and not overload your vehicle. And, remember to carry enough water and juices so that you don’t have to buy relatively expensive bottled water. You can also borrow a large water cooler, fill it up with water and carry it along with you.
  8. Carry a well-stocked first aid kit – When you go for camping, it is very essential that you carry a well-stocked first aid kit. It should contain band-aids, ibrufens, sunscreen, bug spray, etc. so that you do not have to purchase these items, from the convenient stores near the campsite, as they are comparatively expensive.
